Ondo Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, has attributed the rise in kidnapping activities in to the influx of people into the State.
Afolabi said there was no control as to the influx of people to Ondo State.
He said the rate at which people migrate to the Sunshine State has worsened security challenges especially as it relates to kidnapping.
The Ondo CP spoke in Akure at an interactive session with members of the Correspondents Chapel.
He said kidnappings have become sophisticated and required new approaches to tackling it.
Afolabi admitted that the Ondo Police Command lacked modern hi tech equipment and vehicles to tackle kidnappings.
He said high profiled suspected kidnappers were arrested when he hired private trackers.
According to him:”What we rely on is to deploy personnel to comb the bush. It does not achieve much success.
“Kidnapping is a prevalent crime in Ondo State. It is multidimensional. A lot of people are migrating to the south. The rate at which they are migrating has worsen security challenges.
“We need vehicles, military drones, hi-tech binoculars, fuel dump. There is not much logistics to tackle security challenges.”
The Ondo CP said neighbourhood policing would achieve more success than state police.
He said he has ensured training of investigative officers to ensure improvement in crime investigation.
On the Idanre-Akure crisis, Afolabi said he created a buffer zone between the warring communities to check further breakdown of law and order.
