The Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Magaji, has explained the reasons behind the removal of more than 400,000 companies from the commission’s register in 2025.
Magaji, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday at an event in Abuja, said the exercise was carried out to tidy up the CAC database and protect the credibility of Nigeria’s official companies register.
According to him, the affected firms were inactive or failed to comply with statutory requirements, prompting the commission to deregister them in order to maintain accurate and reliable records.
He noted that the cleanup aligns with CAC’s broader reforms, including its shift from a manual, location-based registry to a fully digital system that provides end-to-end corporate services.
Magaji explained that the commission now operates as an online service provider, enabling Nigerians within and outside the country to register businesses remotely at any time.
“CAC now offers services anywhere and at any time, 24 hours a day. You can register your business from your room without visiting our offices,” he said.
It will be recalled that in August 2025, the commission had earlier announced the removal of over 247 companies from its database as part of the same cleanup initiative.
