President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Ogunjimi was appointed after a rigorous selection process.
The 57-year-old was initially named acting Accountant General of the Federation on 10 December 2024. A selection committee later confirmed his appointment through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.

1. Background and Full Name
Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi was born in Lagos on 27 November 1967.
2. Education
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990), and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
3. Fellow of Several Institutions
Ogunjimi is a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and the Institute of Financial Accountants in the United Kingdom.
4. Madehin’s Successor
He will succeed the incumbent Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire on 7 March 2025.
5. Career
Ogunjimi began his career in the private sector as an accountant before transitioning to public service in 2000, where he steadily rose through the ranks in various government institutions. Over two decades, he held key financial roles, including Chief Internal Auditor at the Nigerian Navy Headquarters, Head of Accounts at the Nigerian Copyright Commission, and senior positions at the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the National Hajj Commission.
