VIDEOS: Engineer Shows How He Built Hilda Baci’s Record-Breaking Pot

An engineer identified as Olalecks Tech has shared behind-the-scenes details of how he built the massive pot used by celebrity chef Hilda Baci for her Guinness World Record feat in Lagos.

In a series of videos uploaded to his TikTok page on August 24, 2025, Olalecks documented the process from conceptualisation to fabrication.

He showed how he constructed and smoothed the pot, and later tested it with six giant industrial gas burners designed to power the six-metre vessel.

The videos also captured the transfer of the custom-made pot to the venue, Eko Hotels and Suites.

According to Baci, the pot specially designed had a capacity of 22,619 litres, with a target of filling it to 80 per cent.

She disclosed that 200 bags of rice were cooked during the attempt, but only 4,000 kilogrammes were achieved due to weighing limitations.

“If you notice when we started, we weighed the pot and we need to weigh every single thing that goes into the pot when we’re done.

“The goal was that by the time I was done making 5,000 kilogrammes, I was hoping to achieve about 17,000 to 18,000 kilogrammes,” Hilda told Newsmem.

She explained that the 4,000 kilogrammes of rice produced were enough to feed about 20,000 people.

The event took a dramatic turn when the giant pot collapsed while being hoisted for weighing, though no injuries were recorded.

The attempt set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The achievement, carried out in partnership with food brand Gino, was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records on Monday via X (formerly Twitter).

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria,” the organisation announced.
