Renowned Nigerian fashion designer, Seyi Vodi has completed and unveiled his fashion complex worth multimillion-naira.
He also took to Instagram to share a video showing off the complex.
Sharing the video, designer known for dressing many celebrities drew a comparison between himself and German fashion mogul Philipp Plein.
“Philipp Patrick Hannes Plein, 47 years of age, is a German fashion designer and the founder of the Philipp Plein International Group. Philip founded his company in 1998. Today, he is worth almost $1b.
My name is Seyi Adekunle Vodi. 50 years old in July, founded Vodi just 3 years after Philip Plein started his own fashion empire. Whilst I have done extraordinarily well for myself, in the context of the world, there is no big deal about my numbers and successes.
I have heard in different ways people asking, “is it only fashion that is giving him all this money?” They ask from a place of want, of lack, of penury, ignorance and excruciating poverty. Those words are intended in their denotative connotations.
If our society was one where people generally prospered, we wouldn’t be so hateful and suspicious of success and successful people. Especially when often times, those successes barely measure up globally.
If the average person wasn’t so used to stories of poverty and failings, we’d be more inclined to wonder why Seyi Vodi isn’t a $ billionaire yet instead of wondering where the little one I have comes from. We need to reform our mindset because the things we see of the world are moderated by the mindset that has been principally shaped by our environment, culture and education.
My contemporary Philip Plein rolls around in his own private jet. I have none. He is almost a billionaire. I am not. No one around him will ever ask about the source of his money. Because his money doesn’t mean much amidst the wealth in his society.
I do sleepless nights, keep vigils, travel across borders, I sweat, think and work hard building Vodi and the group. I have been doing this for 24 year now. No break. No slowing down. Just steady grinding. This is the secret I know. This is what has prospered me. This is what will prosper me. I hope those who ought to learn are picking the pieces.” he wrote.
