Nigerian music star and veteran singer, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about the inspiration behind one of her tattoos, revealing that it was born out of deep emotional pain following a heartbreak.
In a candid interview with Katy Igwe, Tiwa shared that she decided to get the tattoo during one of the most difficult periods of her life, describing the experience as intense and bloody, which left her tattoo artist concerned.
“I flew in my tattoo artist from LA to Nigeria and had it done in my room because I wanted to be comfortable. In a tattoo parlour, you’re surrounded by people while going through pain, and I didn’t want that. When my artist arrived, he was shocked and asked, ‘What are you doing? Is that going to come off?’ As he tattooed me, there was blood everywhere. He was worried, asking what I was trying to do,” she recounted.
The singer further reflected on her emotional state at the time, admitting that the tattoo was a way to channel the indescribable pain she felt from a toxic relationship two years ago.
“I got that tattoo because of the pain I felt from heartbreak. I wanted to do something that would scream how I felt. Those two years were very hard for me; the relationship I experienced was crazy. I’m just so happy I’m out of it,” she said.
