President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–1 win over Gabon in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa Playoff, calling the performance a strong reminder of Nigeria’s resilience and determination.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the display — built on bravery, tactical discipline and sharp finishing — showcased the “Nigerian character that rises, adapts and prevails.”
Tinubu noted that the result has lifted the nation’s World Cup drive and restored belief as the Eagles continue their push to reach the global finals.
He applauded the players, coaching crew and the entire technical and administrative staff, saying their commitment to the national cause was clear from the quality of the outing.
He added that Thursday’s victory highlights the rich football talent Nigeria consistently produces and the squad’s hunger to restore the country’s status among Africa’s top football nations.
The President also saluted the millions of Nigerian supporters at home and in the diaspora, stressing that their passion remains a major source of strength for the team during crucial international games.
Sending a message directly to the players, Tinubu urged them to keep their focus and maintain momentum in the matches ahead.
“Every match is an opportunity to show discipline and character. This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure qualification. Super Eagles, keep soaring. The nation stands with you,” he said.
