My heart leaped for joy as I was informed that the long-awaited Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling dated December 5th, 2025, on Local Government ownership has finally been released. This is not just a procedural document, it is a testament to the resilience of democratic institutions and the power of the people’s voice in demanding justice and transparency.
The release of this CTC stands as a powerful testimony to the open letter that was courageously written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Nigerian Bar Association.
That letter, which i proudly referenced , with other groups of open letters written by advocates show that unanimously there is an outcry from the people of Osun over the delay of the CTC and which later exposed their shenanigans just to delay the judgement and expose the Osun people to suffering and hardship.
The delay was not merely administrative; it was strategic, designed to keep duly elected PDP Chairmen and Councilors in Osun State from assuming their rightful positions.
I can confidently say that the letter was indeed prophetic, a clarion call that has now been vindicated. The concerns raised about judicial delays being weaponized for political gain were legitimate, and the eventual release of the CTC proves that sustained pressure from civil society, legal practitioners, and concerned citizens can move mountains.
With the release of this CTC, all PDP Chairmen and Councilors in Osun State are now welcome to resume their offices. The document has effectively sent the APC’s obstructionist tactics packing , the matter is settled outrightly. There can be no more excuses, no more delays, no more attempts to subvert the will of the people as expressed through their votes.
This is a victory not just for the PDP, but for every Nigerian who believes in democratic governance, the rule of law, and the sanctity of electoral mandates. Local government is the closest tier of government to the people, and its paralysis affects the most vulnerable in our society.
I must emphasize and reiterate the sentiments expressed in the previous open letter: we appreciate the Supreme Court for finally listening to the plea of the common masses over the delayed CTC. While justice delayed is often justice denied, the eventual release of this document shows that our judiciary can still respond to public outcry when the pressure is sustained and the cause is just.
The court’s action restores a measure of confidence in our legal system and demonstrates that no political party, regardless of its federal influence, can indefinitely suppress democratic expression at the local level.
Next Steps: Matching Orders and Resumption
The release of the CTC is a crucial milestone, but it triggers a formal legal process. Once received, the state government, working through the Osun State legal team, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, will submit official notification to the appropriate security authorities. These include the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force in Osun State.
This notification serves a dual purpose: to forestall any breach of peace and order, and to ensure a smooth transition of power. All APC occupants currently holding these positions will be required to vacate with immediate effect. Let me be clear, nobody is contending with them personally. However, the law is the law, and compliance is not optional.
Should anyone choose misbehave or resist this lawful order, they will be dealt with decisively through the full authority of the law. Security agencies have been duly informed and empowered to maintain order during this transition.
Once these administrative and security measures are in place, the real work begins, the good work of governance, development, and service delivery at the local level where it matters most.
Communities have projects waiting. Roads need repairs. Healthcare centers require attention. Schools need support. And the people need leaders who are present, accountable, and empowered to act.
This entire episode serves as a reminder that democracy requires constant vigilance and active citizenship. The release of the Supreme Court’s CTC did not happen in a vacuum, it was the result of persistent advocacy, legal pressure, and public outcry. It proves that when citizens stand together and demand accountability from their institutions, even the most entrenched political obstacles can be overcome.
To all PDP Chairmen and Councilors in Osun State: welcome back to office. The people are waiting, and the work of rebuilding and developing our communities begins now. Let this victory remind us all that in a democracy, the will of the people will ultimately prevail.
Democracy wins when justice is served, and today, Osun State celebrates that victory.
