The Gombe State Executive Council has approved a total of N1.337 billion for the construction of a new office complex for the Deputy Governor, to be located beside the Government House on the site of the former Gombe Jewel Suites.
State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transportation, Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, announced the approval on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting.
He explained that the decision was taken because the current office of the Deputy Governor is situated too far from the Government House.
“As of now, the Deputy Governor’s Office is far away from the Government House. The council has approved N1,337,885,743.75 for the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office to be sited adjacent to the Government House, at the Old Gombe Jewel Suites,” he said.
According to Kallamu, the new office will be located on the same grounds where the state government is also developing offices for emirs and chiefs.
Reports indicate that the Gombe Government House has already undergone renovation, while work is ongoing on other major infrastructure projects including the State House of Assembly, the State High Court complex, and the secretariat area known as the Three-Arm Zone.
The commissioner further revealed that the council approved N1.275 billion for the construction of a “new befitting state fire service station”, explaining that the fire service currently shares office space with the local government veterinary department.
Kallamu added that the completion of five mega-colleges was also approved, with an additional N3.5 billion allocated beyond the initial contract sum. The government decided to upgrade the buildings to two-storey structures to accommodate the growing number of students.
He assured that the schools would be ready by January 2026, adding that the council also approved N461 million for the construction of a Police Divisional Office at Shehu Abubakar District in the state capital.
