Senate Speaks on Alleged Plot to Remove Akpabio

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday dismissed claims of an alleged plot to remove its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, describing them as baseless.

Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, addressed the reports during plenary proceedings in Abuja, stressing that no senator had attempted or discussed the removal of the Senate President.

“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion around the possibility or otherwise of the removal of the Senate President from office,” Bamidele said.

He further emphasised the chamber’s unity and focus, noting, “We are totally united and have developed a zero-tolerance attitude toward distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance we need to attend to. Reports like that are calculated to create confusion.”

Earlier, former Abia State governor and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia-North) also dismissed the allegations when speaking to journalists at the National Assembly.

“Were you there? Even if there were attempts, we will never allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” Kalu said, adding that any “family misunderstanding” is always resolved and has not prompted any consideration of removing the Senate President.

Bamidele reiterated that the Senate remains focused on its legislative duties and will not be distracted by such rumours.
