The Senate has approved the appointment of Dr Kingsley Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

His confirmation came after a screening session held on Thursday on the floor of the Senate, according to Channels TV.

Udeh, born in 1978, previously served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.

During the screening, lawmakers engaged him on several national and diplomatic issues, including Nigeria’s handling of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats.

In his response, Udeh explained that President Bola Tinubu was addressing the situation through diplomatic means, insisting it was “a matter of diplomacy rather than law.”

He also weighed in on the ongoing discussion about separating the roles of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, noting that whichever structure is adopted will depend heavily on the “integrity and independence” of whoever occupies the office.

After expressing satisfaction with his answers, the Senate directed him to take a bow before formally confirming his nomination.

His appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down following a certificate scandal.
