I would like to commend Governor Ademola Adeleke for his smart move. His recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) marks a decisive moment not just for him as a political figure, but for Osun State’s political future as well.
While many politicians cling desperately to party structures even when those structures are collapsing from within, Adeleke has shown a rare willingness to step away from chaos rather than be consumed by it. In my opinion, that is a sign of maturity and strategic foresight.
A Courageous Exit From a Stormy Party
Adeleke’s departure did not happen in a vacuum. The PDP has been sinking deeper into internal strife, torn apart by the unending rivalry between the Wike-led faction and the Makinde-led faction. These two blocs have locked horns for months, turning what should be a vibrant opposition platform into a battlefield of egos and power struggles.
In the midst of this turmoil, Adeleke did all he could to keep the peace. He tried mediating, positioning himself neutrally, and refusing to inflame tensions. But at some point, every leader must recognize when a house is too divided to be saved. His resignation, therefore, comes not as an act of abandonment, but as a necessary step to preserve his integrity and protect his administration from being dragged into a conflict he did not create.
His Absence From the Ibadan Convention Was a Clear Message
It can reasonably be assumed that this internal crisis is also the underlying reason he did not show up at the PDP convention held in Ibadan last month. That absence spoke louder than any speech could. It signaled discomfort, dissatisfaction, and perhaps the early stages of his decision to distance himself from the party.
To those who were paying attention, the signs were already there.
A Welcome Idea, A Fresh Chapter
From an observer’s standpoint, Adeleke’s move is not only understandable it is commendable. With 2026 approaching, no serious political leader can afford to anchor their future to a sinking structure. The governor has effectively chosen clarity over confusion, stability over internal sabotage, and strategy over sentiment.
It is a welcome idea because it frees him from the burden of partisan chaos and allows him to focus on governance in Osun State without being pulled into factional wars.
What Comes Next?
Now that the first step has been taken, the next is equally important. Adeleke should openly communicate his plans moving into the 2026 election cycle.
Will he join another political party?
Is he considering forming a new political movement?
Or does he have a different strategy entirely?
Osun citizens deserve to know. The political terrain is shifting rapidly, and clarity from their governor will help them make informed choices about the future. In a political climate where many leaders lack the courage to step away from a troubled structure, Gov. Ademola Adeleke has made a bold, smart, and refreshing move. His decision reflects not only strategic thinking but also a commitment to protecting his mandate and his people from unnecessary turmoil.
Now, we await his next step. Whichever political party he eventually chooses for his reelection bid, many residents of Osun State are anticipating an official announcement.
