The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Wale Ibrahim for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man, Fisayo Ajetumobi, to death during a violent altercation in Litaye Camp, Ondo East Local Government Area.
In a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said the tragic incident occurred on September 13 at about 6:30 p.m. at a construction site along Litaye Camp via Lake Road.
According to the report, Ibrahim had gone to the site to demand the sum of N14,000 from one Gabriel Oyeniran, being payment for wood previously sold to him. An argument ensued between the two men, during which Ibrahim reportedly became aggressive and pulled out a knife.
“In the heat of the altercation, the suspect, Wale Ibrahim, stabbed one Fisayo Ajetumobi, who was present at the scene, fatally wounding him in the chest,” Ayanlade stated.
The victim died on the spot from the injuries, while Ibrahim was immediately apprehended. Police investigations have since concluded, and the suspect has been charged to court to face prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the incident as a “senseless act of violence” and warned that the command would not tolerate such criminality. He urged residents of the state to always seek lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.
“The command remains committed to protecting lives and property across Ondo State. We call on the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and useful information that can help prevent crime,” the CP assured.
The incident has once again raised concerns over rising cases of violent confrontations linked to financial disputes within local communities.
