Following last week’s violent crisis in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Doo Project Group has called for compensation for the families of those who lost their lives.
The crisis erupted last Saturday when protesters allegedly set fire to the divisional police station in Ifon over the deaths of two youths, 17-year-old Tolu Bobade and Bamise Orisamola.
Bobade was reportedly killed while in police custody.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group’s leader, Daisi Olagbegi, urged the police to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice for the sake of peace in the community.
The statement read, “The Doo Project Groupis deeply pained on the sad incidents of Saturday and Sunday respectively is Ifon. our hearts go to the families of those that host their loved ones.
“We described as a paradox the phrase “police is your friend, if the friend of the people can’t manage a case and as common and simple as a fight between two or three friends to the extent that barren-spirited boys were killed to the same friend of the people – Nigeria police. This is shameful and acceptable.
“We demand a full-scale investigation from the Nigeria police to unrevealed the remote and immediate causes of the death of Master Tolu Bobade on Saturday and Bamise Orisamola on Sunday as the information has it was bring that to justice. All those behind the unfortunate incident.
“Compensation should be paid to the families of the slain boys and info as a town.”
The group also appealed to the youths of the community not to take laws into their own hands whenever there were issues in the community.
“To the youths, we appreciate the dent the death of friends and loved ones can bring to individuals and family members. As people, we are at liberty to enlarge our grief but not to the level of wanton destruction of structures. Cry havoc, but slip the dogs of wars!
“Let us keep in mind that two wrongs will never make a right, Destruction of structures will only bring more setback to the community. Our elders are working assiduously to find solutions to many of the problems bedevilled,” the group urged.
On the issue of the vacant traditional stool of Ifon following the death of Oba Israel Adeusi, the group called for caution and urged the government to consider the wishes of the people in selecting a new monarch.
“We want to appeal to the Ondo State Government to listen to the Ifon people because they know what is good for them. The people are responsible people they know their worth and they know the calibre of the person they want as king.
“All we are asking from the government is to give the people a listening ear. and this issue will be resolved once and for all. If this is done, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s government will be deeply appreciated,” the statement added.
