Okitipupa LG Chairman Decorates State Silver Medalists

… Celebrates Okitipupa Zone Team for Outstanding Performance at Southwest School Sports Competition

The Executive Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, on Monday decorated the athletes of the Okitipupa Zone who recently represented Ondo State at the Southwest edition of the Basic Education School Sports Competition held in Lagos State, where they clinched second place overall.

The young stars, who had earlier emerged champions at the state level with six gold medals, once again brought pride to Okitipupa and Ondo State by finishing as first runners-up in the highly competitive regional event. Ondo came second overall, closely behind Lagos State, while Ekiti State took third place.

Among the decorated medalists were Omobobola Ojuetimi, the highest medalist from the zone; alongside Olabisi Olaniran, Ewata Anita, Aderemi Esther, and several others who contributed to the team’s outstanding success.

At a heartwarming reception held at the Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Ogunsakin praised the team for their consistency, determination, and brilliance, noting that their exceptional performance on the regional stage was not only a reward for hard work but also a testament to the rising spirit of excellence in the Okitipupa education system.

“I am extremely proud of each and every one of you,” the Chairman said as he personally decorated the young athletes with medals. “You have not only flown the flag of Okitipupa high, but also made Ondo State proud at the regional level. This is a clear sign that we must continue to invest in youth and grassroots development.”

He commended their coaches, teachers, and parents for the invaluable roles they played in nurturing the pupils’ talents and promised to deepen his administration’s support for school sports, including plans to launch a local interschool sports competition to serve as a breeding ground for future champions.

The event was attended by jubilant parents, sports coaches, teachers, and top local government officials. Notably present were the Education Secretary of Okitipupa LG, Hon. Chief S.A. Arowojolu; Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mrs. Awolere Iyabo; Vice Chairman, Hon. Ogunyemi Orimisan; Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Femi Oladokun; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr. Saka Kadri; Mrs. Adeyeye Bose, Social Mobilisation Officer; Mrs. Adesugba V.F., Sport Coordinator; and other dignitaries.

The children, gleaming with joy and excitement, received rounds of applause and words of encouragement from all present. The day ended on a celebratory note, with a strong promise from the Chairman to continue empowering the youth and promoting sports as a vehicle for education, development, and unity.
