The Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, has appointed Julius Popoola as its first substantive registrar and Christy Adeeko as its first substantive librarian.
The polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Folorunso Adedayo, disclosed in a statement sent to Punch Online on Monday that the appointments were approved by the institution’s Governing Council.
According to Folorunso, the duo’s appointment would last for a single non-renewable term of five years.
She noted that Popoola had joined the polytechnic in 2007 as an administrative officer and rose through the ranks to become the Acting Registrar in 2019.
She added, “He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Psychology (Personnel Psychology), a Master’s degree (Personnel Psychology), and a Bachelor’s degree (Guidance and Counselling) from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, respectively.
“He is a certified member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (Member), the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (Fellow), the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria (Fellow), and the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (Fellow).”
She added that Adeeko joined the polytechnic in 2012 and rose to become the Acting Librarian in 2023, a position she occupied before her appointment.
“She holds both a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Library, Archival, and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan.
“Dr. Adeeko is a certified librarian who is registered under the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria; Member, Nigerian Library Association, Ogun State Chapter; Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (Fellow); and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria.”
She concluded that the appointments reflected the polytechnic’s commitment to “not only promoting quality education and human capital development in Nigeria, but also strengthening polytechnic education as a critical driver of innovation, skills development, and national growth.”
