The National leadership of the National Union of Okitipupa Local Government Students (NUOLGS), under the NEW ERA able lead by Comrade Sen. Prince Adeoye Omoleminu, on Thursday, July 31, 2025 paid a significant courtesy visit to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Okitipupa Divisional Headquarters.
The delegation was warmly received by the Divisional Commander, Engr. F.F. Akinlogbe, who expressed immense joy at the visit. According to him, this was the first official visit by a student union to the VIO since he assumed office. He described the meeting as timely and essential, applauding NUOLGS for taking a bold step in fostering institutional synergy between students and government agencies.
During the discussion, the NUOLGS National President highlighted several key areas for collaboration between the student body and the VIO, including:
1. Road Safety Awareness Campaigns – Aimed at educating students and the wider community on traffic rules, responsible driving habits, and general road safety practices.
2. Monitoring and Regulation of Student Transportation – Ensuring student shuttles and buses are roadworthy and properly documented to guarantee the safety of students on the road.
3. Internship and Career Development Opportunities – Providing students with hands-on experience in public service and the transport safety sector.
4. Community Outreach Programs – Promoting public safety while encouraging students’ active involvement in social responsibility and nation-building.
5. Strategic Partnership on Government Programs – Strengthening NUOLGS visibility and its involvement in key government-led initiatives and policies.
The VIO Commander, in response, expressed optimism about the partnership. He shared some of the challenges facing the VIO Okitipupa Division, particularly the lack of a standard office structure, despite available government land. He welcomed the involvement of students in advocacy and encouraged the union to continue pushing for positive change.
He also advised students to obtain valid driver’s licenses and ensure that their vehicles and documents meet all legal requirements. The Commander pledged to engage the union further and collaborate closely on future programs.
In the course of the visit, the NUOLGS National President also made a request for support in acquiring a customized NUOLGS vehicle plate number, to which the Commander responded positively. He assured the union of guidance through the process, humorously saying: “Get your vehicle first.”
The visit concluded on a hopeful note, with both parties expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for future collaboration.
