In recent weeks, unverified reports and statements from unauthorized sources and illegal authorities circulated, suggesting internal turmoil from the National PDP, including calls for the disbandment of the party’s state structures. These claims appear to stem from factional disputes and external interferences aimed at undermining the party’s stability ahead of future electoral contests.
This comes at a time when Osun State, under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, is focused on governance and development initiatives, making any internal destabilization particularly untimely and suspicious.
Call for Calm and Vigilance
I am urging members and Osun state people to remain calm, vigilant, and focused, disregarding any attempts to create ambiguity or fear.
No amount of external pressure, unlawful national posturing, or recycled intimidation can invalidate the current leadership.
Handiwork of Governor Adeleke’s Political Enemies and Stooges Within Osun PDP
At the core of the PDP’s condemnation is the assertion that the crisis incitement is orchestrated by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political adversaries, both external and internal.
This report concurs with the party’s view, based on the following evidence and patterns:
• Role of External Enemies Governor Adeleke, who assumed office in 2022 after a keenly contested election, has faced repeated challenges from opposition figures and national-level actors opposed to his progressive policies. Past attempts to destabilize his administration, including legal battles and media campaigns, mirror the current scenario.
• The PDP statement references “unlawful national posturing,” suggesting involvement from higher echelons of rival political entities or disgruntled national PDP factions. These “political undertakers” are accused of recycling failed tactics from previous assaults on Osun’s PDP structures, aiming to weaken the party’s electoral base and indirectly target the governor’s popularity
• Historical context supports this: Osun PDP has overcome similar interferences, such as post-election disputes, emerging more unified each time. The current ploy appears designed to distract from the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, and welfare programs.
• Within the Osun PDP, the party identifies “stooges” as disloyal elements colluding with external forces. These individuals are portrayed as those who have historically worked against the party’s and state’s interests, possibly motivated by personal ambitions or inducements.
• The statement’s reference to “those who colluded vainly with the enemies of Osun State in the past to destroy the state in active cahoot with undisguised enemies of our people” points to a pattern of betrayal. Such stooges may be issuing unauthorized directives to create the illusion of a leadership vacuum, thereby justifying external intervention.
• Threat to Stability: If unchecked, these maneuvers could escalate into full-blown crises, diverting resources from governance. Yet, the party’s history of resilience having “survived and overcome worse assaults” suggests it is well-equipped to weather this storm.
The Illogical Timing and Procedural Inconsistencies
Another glaring inconsistency in the disbandment narrative lies in the timeline and procedural authority.
The tenure of the PDP’s state structures will naturally elapse in 2027 without any court intervention, making a premature dissolution both unnecessary and procedurally questionable. This raises a critical question: Which national body of the party possesses the authority to dissolve state excos—the Damangu administration or the Turaki-led administration? The national executive itself remains unstable and embroiled in its own internal disputes, yet it purports to dictate the fate of Osun PDP structures.
This contradiction is not merely technical; it exposes the entire narrative as laughable and lacking in legitimacy.
If the national leadership can not stabilize its own structures, how can it credibly claim authority over state-level organs? This further validates the assertion that the disbandment push is orchestrated sabotage rather than legitimate party governance.
Advise to PDP Members
Heed the call for vigilance and unity; report any suspicious activities to official channels to prevent further sabotage.
• For Stakeholders: Independent observers and the national PDP leadership should investigate unauthorized claims to uphold constitutional processes.
