Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, 2025, as public holidays throughout the state.
The decision, according to the government, aims to enable residents to take part actively in the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, explained that the two-day holiday is intended to give registered voters ample time to reach their polling centres and cast their votes.
During the work-free period, all banks, markets, and government offices are to remain closed, while movement across the state will be restricted, except for individuals on essential duties.
The government encouraged residents to turn out massively and elect credible leaders committed to advancing grassroots development.
Governor Bago also instructed security agencies to maintain peace and ensure that the elections are conducted in a safe and orderly manner.
