Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic after signing a new bill into law on Friday, signalling a major push to widen access to tertiary and technical education in the state.
The signing took place at the Government House in Kano, with top lawmakers including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butubutu, present at the ceremony.

Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the move follows recommendations from a 14-member committee set up to lay groundwork for the institution. The polytechnic, once fully operational, is expected to cater to youths seeking vocational and technical skills while boosting employment opportunities in the area.
“This is part of a broader plan to improve access to quality education, support skills development, and drive socio-economic growth in Gaya and neighbouring communities,” officials said.
