Nigerian Church to Pay Unemployed ‘Workers’ N50,000 Monthly

Senior Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, Bolaji Idowu, has announced that the church will provide a monthly financial support of ₦50,000 for three months to members who serve in the church but are currently unemployed.

Pastor Idowu made the announcement during a church service on Sunday, explaining that the initiative is aimed at helping affected members stabilise financially while searching for new employment opportunities.

“All those that serve in church that are in between jobs — you used to have a job and you lost it — for the next three months, we’ll be giving you ₦50,000 every month to help them until they get their next job,” he said.

He stated that the support scheme would apply to leaders and members serving in various capacities within the church.

“So all of those leaders that serve in church that I just mentioned, we’re giving ₦50,000 just to help them stabilise. One of the things the church should do is to be there for one another, to help them stabilise,” Idowu added.

The cleric urged eligible members to register with the church administration, noting that the process would not involve extensive screening due to the level of trust built through their service.

“If you’re in that category, you should see your pastor and the church administration and register. We’re not going to do so many interviews because for you to serve, we trust that you are honest,” he said.

The announcement was met with applause from members of the congregation, many of whom welcomed the initiative as timely support amid rising unemployment and economic pressures.
