Revelations have surfaced explaining why the late former President Muhammadu Buhari declined to endorse his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, as his successor.

Buhari withheld support for Osinbajo’s presidential bid in 2022, reportedly because he did not personally know him.

In the biography “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” by Dr Charles Omole, Buhari is quoted as saying he was introduced to Osinbajo through President Bola Tinubu.

The book, unveiled at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, quoted Buhari as saying: “I don’t know Osinbajo from anywhere, I met him only through Tinubu.”

According to the author, Buhari expressed surprise that Osinbajo contested against Tinubu during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary.

Osinbajo is widely regarded as one of the political figures groomed by Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, where Osinbajo served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
