The Muslim Council of Taraba State has outlawed all forms of wedding parties in Jalingo.
The decision, announced after consultations between Imams, traditional rulers and authorities, specifically targets Kauyawa and Ajo parties, where youths often dress in rags and dance deep into the night.
Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, delivered the ruling on behalf of the council.
“From now, no household is allowed to hold Kauyawa, Ajo or any type of wedding party in Jalingo,” he declared.
Defaulters face stiff sanctions: no imam will conduct their Nikah (marriage contract). Worse still, funeral prayers, naming ceremonies, or wedding lectures will not be held in their homes.
Clerics were also warned not to attend such banned events or risk losing their positions.
The ruling, which dominated last Friday’s sermons across Jalingo mosques, is aimed at curbing excesses and instilling discipline among Muslims.
The council urged strict compliance.
