Mohbad’s Family Bars Wunmi from Using Surname Pending DNA Test Outcome

The family of late singer Mohbad has officially prohibited his widow, Wunmi Adebanjo, from using the Aloba surname until a DNA test confirms the paternity of their son, Liam.

The restriction follows an ongoing dispute over Liam’s parentage after Mohbad’s controversial death. The singer passed away following an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse, and his body was later exhumed for an autopsy amid public outcry.

In May 2025, pathologists reported that the exact cause of death could not be determined, creating a setback in the investigation.

In a statement signed by Omolayo Aloba, the family head, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, Wunmi was barred from using the family name, with the family citing that she was not legally married to the late singer.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the required Yoruba traditional rites (payment of bride price) were never completed,” the statement said.

The family has also appointed Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative for matters relating to the DNA case and Mohbad’s estate, while Wahab Shittu will continue handling all dealings with investigative authorities regarding his death.

The statement added that both Wunmi and Liam will participate in the administration of the estate once the DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s biological son.
