A lawyer in Indiana, United States, named Mark Zuckerberg, has filed a lawsuit against the Meta Chief Executive Officer whose name he shares for repeatedly banning him on his social media platforms, the country’s media reported.
The man, described as a “bankruptcy lawyer” said he filed the suit because his life has been negatively affected by sharing the same name with the younger tech maven.
He added that not only does he get over 100 emails every day from people who think that they are writing to the Meta chief executive officer, but he can rarely make a reservation at a restaurant without getting hung up on because people mistake him for a prankster.
But the thing that irritates him the most is getting banned on Facebook and Instagram despite investing tens of thousands of dollars in ads for the simple reason that his name is Mark Zuckerberg.
Since 2017, Mark Zuckerberg’s advertising page has been disabled five times for allegedly impersonating the famous Meta founder.
He disclosed that it was an irritating feeling for him, knowing that he’s been using the name for far longer and has been practicing law since Facebook’s Zuckerberg was three years old.
He claimed that he had lost $11,000 in advertisement fees as he never got refunded whenever his page was disabled for allegedly impersonating Zuckerberg.
“We removed your page because you’re trying to impersonate our founder. Nice try, fake Zuck!” This was one of the messages the Indiana lawyer received whenever his advertising page got disabled on Facebook.
He never gets the chance to prove he is Mark Zuckerberg, so after his latest ban, he decided to file a lawsuit against Meta.
In his complaint, the lawyer shared a copy of an email thread from 2020 in which he references the fact that he has been in touch with Meta about his repeated bans since 2017.
“Also, if you happen to run into the younger, richer Mark Zuckerberg, tell him I said hi and he causes me great aggravation each day,” the lawyer wrote in one email to Meta.
Following lawyer Mark Zuckerberg’s lawsuit and the buzz around it, Meta has acknowledged the bizarre situation, promising to find a solution.
“We know there are more than one Mark Zuckerberg in the world. We’re working to try to prevent this from happening again,” the platform announced.
