President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s firm determination to defeating terrorism while deepening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with international partners.
Speaking moments before the Federal Executive Council moved into a closed-door session on Thursday, the President said, “We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism. The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose guided by the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria.”
The meeting, held inside the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, marks the first full FEC gathering since July.
Tinubu’s remarks follow the recent move by U.S. President Donald Trump, who labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” a designation Nigerian authorities have dismissed as a misreading of the nation’s security situation.
Addressing the issue publicly for the first time, the President explained that his government is maintaining active diplomatic engagement to promote national stability, security and economic revival.
He said, “Despite political headwinds and fears, we will continue to engage with our partners.
The success of the $2.3bn Eurobond, which was oversubscribed, is a sign of confidence in our economy.
The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose.”
Tinubu further assured Nigerians that the country remains united in its pursuit of peace and prosperity, urging continued confidence in the government’s ongoing reforms.
He also commended his cabinet members for their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the need for cohesion, discipline and renewed focus as the administration pushes ahead with key policy objectives.
