Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, marking yet another shift in the political landscape of Cross River North.

His defection was announced on Tuesday during plenary, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who chaired the session, presenting the letter to lawmakers.

The move boosts the APC’s strength in the Senate to 77 members and effectively completes a sweep of Cross River State’s representation in the upper chamber.

While presenting the letter, Jibrin attributed Jarigbe’s exit to what the senator described as a lingering crisis within the PDP. The Deputy Senate President appeared visibly pleased with the development, referring to it as a “wonderful announcement”.

He followed up with, “Wonderful announcement, you can guess”, he told colleagues, before praising Jarigbe’s long legislative journey. “Very sweet. Our brother Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, a very very experienced legislator who started from the House of Representatives down to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and you know when such people are making announcements, you have to listen very well.”

Jarigbe’s switch means all three senators from Cross River State now sit with the ruling party. The other two lawmakers, Eteng Williams (Central) and Asuquo Ekpenyong (South), are also members of the APC.
