Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reignited his long-standing feud with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, barely days after they appeared to have settled their differences.

It was earlier reported that both men, known for their longstanding political hostility, had made peace when Obasanjo attended Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos on Saturday. At the event, Obasanjo acknowledged Fayose’s past criticisms but stated he had forgiven him.

However, the truce now appears short-lived. In a ‘Thank You’ message sent to Obasanjo and released on Monday by the former president’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Fayose lashed out at Obasanjo in characteristically fiery language.

“I kept quiet so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man that you are. It is also obvious that you have lost your sanity or should I say this is the heightened stage of dementia,” Fayose wrote.

He also accused Obasanjo of taking money from him and demanded a refund, saying: “I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought you back.”

Obasanjo, known for his sharp retorts, responded swiftly with a short but pointed message.

“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable,” he wrote.

He went on to clarify that the money in question had already been returned: “Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”

This latest exchange signals a new flare-up in the long and troubled relationship between the two political heavyweights, whose rivalry has spanned years and remained deeply personal.
