FULL LIST: NUC Investigates 8 Universities Over Alleged Illegal Degree Programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has revealed that eight universities in Nigeria are currently under investigation for allegedly offering unauthorised degree programmes. This follows the commission’s earlier warning about 58 unaccredited institutions operating illegally in the country.

According to the NUC, these eight institutions are being scrutinised to determine the legitimacy of their programmes and whether they meet the standards set for higher education in Nigeria.

The Universities under investigation include:

  1. National Universities of Nigeria, Keffi, Nasarawa State
  2. North Central University, Otukpo, Benue State
  3. Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University
  4. Richmond Open University, Arochukwu, Abia State
  5. West Coast University, Umuahia
  6. Saint Clements University, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State
  7. Volta University College, Aba, Abia State
  8. Illegal Satellite Campuses of Ambrose Alli University

The NUC has urged prospective students to exercise caution and verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolment. The commission emphasised that obtaining degrees from unapproved universities or programmes could have serious legal and professional implications.
