As investigations continue into the foiled coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Premium Times has obtained exclusive information revealing the identities and ranks of 16 senior military officers allegedly involved.
Sources familiar with the ongoing probe told Premium Times that 14 of the detained officers are from the Nigerian Army, while the remaining two hail from the Navy and the Air Force.
Among the army personnel, 12 belong to the Infantry Corps, the primary ground combat unit, while one officer is from the Signals Corps, responsible for military communications, and another serves in the Ordnance Corps, which manages weapons, ammunition, and other critical equipment.
The detained army officers consist of a brigadier general, a colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, and one lieutenant. The Navy is represented by a lieutenant commander, the equivalent of a major, while the Air Force officer is a squadron leader, holding a similar rank.
Both the Nigerian government and the Defence Headquarters have declined to provide further comments on the alleged coup plot, stating only that the incident was not the reason for the subdued Independence Day celebrations on 1 October.
