Super Falcons staged a stunning 3–2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco to win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. In a dramatic and emotionally charged final, Morocco raced to a 2–0 lead in the first half, sending the home crowd into frenzy. But the Nigerians, driven by experience, belief, and championship DNA, rallied fiercely in the second half.
The win was a crowning moment for coach Justin Madugu’s side, who overcame injuries, hostile atmospheres, and high expectations to reclaim their throne in African women’s football. Their dominance throughout the tournament was reflected in the post-tournament awards, as Nigeria swept top honors.
Ajibade, whose leadership and attacking brilliance proved crucial, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Chiamaka Nnadozie, ever-reliable in goal, earned the Best Goalkeeper award, while Madugu’s tactical nous and calm leadership saw him named Coach of the Tournament.
Despite Nigeria’s triumph, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak secured the Golden Boot with five goals, and South Africa walked away with the Fair Play Award.
