In line with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s Ease Agenda, aimed at making education more accessible and affordable, the Ondo State Government has introduced free shuttle buses and boats across the state.
The service began on Monday, coinciding with the resumption of schools for the new academic year.
While overseeing the operation of the free shuttle buses in Akure, the state capital, Mr. Francis Ayodele, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, praised the governor for providing the necessary funding and personnel to sustain the service for the next 13 weeks.
Ayodele reassured both parents and students that the boat services in riverine areas and the bus services in urban areas would be completely free of charge. He encouraged users to reach out to his office for any concerns or feedback.
He also urged students to maintain orderliness, adhere to the rules, and cooperate with drivers and guides during their journeys.
Parents, students, and pupils expressed their gratitude for the resumption of schools and the continuation of the free transportation services. They particularly appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to supporting families by reducing transportation costs.
Mrs. Bolanle Adeoye, a parent at one of the bus stops, expressed her thanks to the governor, noting that the initiative would relieve families of the financial burden of transportation, allowing them to better manage other responsibilities. She also praised the governor for sustaining the program and wished him continued success in further advancing the state.
In addition, free shuttle speedboats have begun operating in the riverine areas of Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.
