Five construction workers were injured early Thursday when a partially built two-storey structure collapsed in the Onipetesi Estate, Mangoro area of Lagos.
The incident occurred at No. 5, Modupe Ola Street, Onipetesi, where the structure—originally a bungalow—was undergoing conversion to a two-storey building.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported that they received a distress call at 5:39 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 6:24 a.m., deploying units from Ikeja and Agege fire stations.
The collapse took place at the rear section of the building while the work was ongoing. At the time, occupants remained on the ground floor.
Margaret Adeseye, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said all five victims—adult male construction workers—were rescued alive with varying degrees of injury and taken to a hospital for treatment. Thankfully, there were no fatalities.
Authorities confirmed the situation is now under control.
