In preparation for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on October 1, 2025, the Federal Government has announced the official theme: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
This theme, unveiled by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), emphasizes the collective responsibility of all citizens—across public and private sectors, civil society, and the general populace—in fostering a nation characterized by enduring peace, prosperity, and progress.
According to Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, Nigeria has overcome numerous challenges and achieved significant milestones in various economic sectors since gaining independence in 1960. The government encourages citizens to build upon these achievements while striving toward greater national objectives.
To align with the theme, the government has scheduled several activities leading up to the anniversary:
- Juma’at Prayer: Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
- Inter-Denominational Church Service: Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
- World Press Conference: Monday, September 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
These events aim to foster unity and collective action among Nigerians as they celebrate the nation’s journey toward a brighter future.
