Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, has slammed Nigeria international, Calvin Bassey, for conceding a penalty in Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Nigerian international brought down Mason Mount in the danger area in the 35th minutes while the Red Devils were preparing to take a corner.
The video assistant referee called the attention of the referee to the incident when it appeared he had initially missed the infringement.
Penalty was awarded and United captain, Bruno Fernandes stepped up and fired the ball over the bar.
Neville described Bassey’s challenge on Mount as reckless.
“There is a little throw – it is reckless and stupid from Bassey – It is stupid as we know referees have been told to clamp down on this,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
Following his move to Fulham from Ajax in the summer of 2023, the Nigeria international has been a key figure at the Premier League side.
