The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that any commissioner who disobeys Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’ during State Executive Council meetings will face suspension from the party.
State APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, made this known while addressing the governor’s order, stressing that compliance with the instruction was a demonstration of loyalty to both the governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Okpebholo had, during the swearing-in of newly confirmed commissioners and the inauguration of state boards on October 14, ordered members of his cabinet to show their allegiance to President Tinubu through the wearing of branded outfits.
Tenebe condemned any form of resistance to the directive, describing it as a clear act of defiance and a breach of party discipline. He said the APC leadership in the state would not hesitate to sanction those found guilty of disobedience.
“If you refuse to wear the cap as the governor has directed, we will suspend you. That is indiscipline and insubordination.
“We are doing this because we have made a promise that 3.5 million votes are guaranteed for President Bola Tinubu. Everybody has keyed into achieving that target.
“If, as a member of the APC, you got an appointment, you are supposed to be loyal to the President. We are expressing our loyalty to him by wearing the cap. Those complaining are not members of the APC. We in Edo have made it clear — no Asiwaju cap, no Exco,” he said.
