The Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, has asked host communities not to indulge in the habit of advancing heavy loans to officers serving in their communities.
The IG, who was represented by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, was speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration of the newly built Divisional police headquarters at Imane Olamaboro local government area of the state.
“Let me sound a note of warning to members of the community that in the course of relating with officers and men that will be posted here, they will come to you and ask for loans and financial assistance, but you should not advance heavy loans which will be difficult for them to repay” Dantawaye said.
He called on members of the community to take proper care of the divisional headquarters, the first if it’s kind in the area built and donated by a son of the soil, Dr Peter Ali.
Also speaking, the Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, represented by his Deputy, Joel Oyibo, said the state government was full of appreciation for the gesture of the donor and called on members of the community to build on that by cooperating with officers that would be deployed to serve in the area.
“I urge you to create synergy with officers that would be deployed here in the area of intelligence gathering so as to improve the security archtheture and provide safety of lives and property,” he said.
The donor of the edifice, Ali, said that he was motivated by his desire to contribute his quota towards improving the security architecture of his community.
“As we commission this headquarters today, we are not just opening doors to a building, we are opening avenues for enhanced security, improved response times, and strengthened relationships between our communities and the police,” Ali said.
He called on his people to ensure the facility fulfills its purpose and serves as a symbol of collective resolve to build a safer and more prosperous society.
