The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
According to the state government, the initiative is designed to mobilise resources and revitalise the sports sector across the state.
The administration also reiterated its dedication to completing the renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, noting that the upgraded facility is being remodelled to meet Olympic standards.
As reported by The Guardian Nigeria, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, confirmed Davido’s appointment.
He stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is committed to transforming the stadium into a premier sports arena capable of hosting both national and international events.
He said, “Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.
“I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.
Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
