The National Prayer Support Group for Good Governance (NPSGGG) has faulted statements by United States President Donald Trump alleging that Christians were being systematically killed in Nigeria, describing his remarks as a misrepresentation of the country’s security reality.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Gbenupo Kentomahun, and made available to journalists on Sunday, November 2, 2025, the group said it was “shocked” that the American president, who has access to intelligence reports, would “choose religion ahead of humanity.”
According to the NPSGGG, while insecurity persists in some parts of the country, there has been no targeted killing based on religion as claimed by Trump. The group maintained that both Christians and Muslims have suffered losses to terrorism and banditry, stressing that “Muslims are more affected in all killings in Nigeria from 2013 to date.”
The statement reads: “We read with surprise the statements by the POTUS, President Donald Trump, on the insecurity in Nigeria. While we acknowledge that there is insecurity in some parts of the country, it is surprising that the President of the United States of America, who should be privy to intelligence reports, chose religion ahead of humanity.
“There was no attack on specific people based on their religion. We can beat our chest to say, Muslims are more affected in all killings in Nigeria from 2013 to date.”
The group also cited both the Bible and the Qur’an in cautioning Trump and the international community against spreading unverified information that could inflame religious tensions.
Quoting Exodus 23:1 and Qur’an 49:6, the NPSGGG said both scriptures warn against circulating unconfirmed reports capable of causing harm or division.
The organisation further highlighted the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle insecurity, noting that the country has “recorded more victories against terrorist groups like Boko Haram in the North-East, bandits in the North-West, and IPOB agitators in the South-East.”
It urged the United States to collaborate with Nigeria on counterterrorism initiatives rather than issue threats against a sovereign nation.
“The U.S. Government should find a way to work hand in hand with Nigeria in assisting us to bring these terrorists down instead of threatening a sovereign country like Nigeria,” the statement added.
The group, which comprises Christians, Muslims, traditionalists and other faith representatives across the 36 states and the FCT, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity, peace, and national development through prayer and dialogue.
“We hope and pray President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria succeed. God bless Nigeria,” it concluded.
