A brazen car thief reportedly broke into the Kano State Government House early Monday, making away with a Toyota Hilux van from the Deputy Governor’s convoy.
According to Daily Nigerian, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. when the suspect entered the premises through Gate 4 and later drove the vehicle out through the main gate.
Sources within the Government House said CCTV footage captured the thief’s movements, showing him calmly driving the Hilux out of the complex without being stopped.
A source told the online newspaper: “The vehicle was part of the deputy governor’s convoy,” adding that security around the deputy governor’s office is typically active only during working hours or when the deputy governor is present.
It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, was interrogated and briefly detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Already, an investigation has been launched. The driver is being questioned, while the Chief Security Officer (CSO) is reviewing the CCTV footage,” the source said.
At the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government has yet to released an official statement on the incident.
