Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the appointment of 142 new district heads in 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms as part of efforts to strengthen traditional administration and grassroots governance.
The chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, disclosed this to journalists in Bauchi yesterday.
He said the appointments were made in accordance with Sections 16(1) and 16(14) of the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 2025, which provides the legal framework for restructuring and recognising traditional institutions in the state.
According to him, the appointments constitute the first phase, with a second phase to follow. He explained that the selection process was based on recommendations from royal fathers and extensive consultations to ensure fairness, justice, and inclusivity.
Alh. Wabi added that Governor Bala Mohammed has directed all royal fathers to promptly conduct turbaning ceremonies for the newly appointed District Heads.
He explained that the implementation of the law led to the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms, making it necessary to appoint qualified District Heads to effectively manage local affairs.
According to him, the appointments are expected to enhance coordination between traditional rulers and government authorities, particularly at the grassroots level.
Alhaji Wabi commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his leadership and commitment to reforms within the traditional institution, and also praised other stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the law.
He urged the newly appointed District Heads to uphold the values of fairness, accountability, and service, assuring that the Bauchi State Government remains committed to promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development through strong and responsive traditional institutions.
He congratulated the District Heads and urged them to see their appointments as a divine call to serve with integrity, dedication, and the fear of God.
