Your Excellency,
I write to you today with profound respect and admiration for the leadership you have demonstrated in steering the affairs of Osun State. Despite facing relentless national oppression and intimidation, you have remained steadfast in your commitment to the people who elected you.
Your resilience in the face of orchestrated obstacles has not gone unnoticed, and for this, sir, I salute you your Excellency.
Congratulations are also in order, Your Excellency, on the favorable outcome of the Supreme Court ruling. After months of prolonged delay, legal wrangling, and deliberate obstruction, justice has finally prevailed. This victory is not just yours it belongs to every citizen of Osun State who believes in the rule of law and democratic governance. Your patience and persistence through this challenging period have been vindicated by the apex court, and this is a testament to your commitment to doing things the right way, even when faced with immense pressure to compromise.
However, Your Excellency, it is precisely because of this hard won victory and your track record of courage that I write to you now not as a critic, but as a concerned citizen who believes that your greatest test of leadership has arrived.
Friday’s Supreme Court judgment has dramatically reshaped the political landscape in our dear state, and with it comes a responsibility that rests squarely on your shoulders. The ball is now firmly in your court, Your Excellency, and the people of Osun are watching.
THE SUPREME COURT HAS SPOKEN: WHAT NEXT?
The apex court has reportedly affirmed that local governments can finally access their funds, invalidating the previous financial arrangements that have kept our grassroots administration in gridlock. If the UBA account arrangement has been declared “unknown to law,” then the path forward is procedural, not political. The law is clear, and justice demands swift implementation.
Your Excellency, I urge you to take the following immediate steps:
1. Convene an emergency meeting of all relevant local government stakeholders—the duly elected chairmen and councillors, civil servants, legal advisers, and relevant political actors.
2. Await and secure the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment from Abuja. While the legal interpretation of the CTC will give us better clarity of the ruling, this should not be used as an excuse for delay but as a foundation for proper implementation.
3. Proceed immediately to the appropriate court, alongside the NULGE chairman and affected local government officials, seeking a court order to resume duties without opposition obstruction.
4. Request an ex parte order to ensure immediate implementation of the Supreme Court decision while preventing further political interference.
5. Facilitate the lawful transfer of funds from the UBA account to the account recognized by the Supreme Court, thereby restoring financial autonomy to our local governments.
WHO ARE THE AUTHENTIC COUNCIL OFFICIALS?
Your Excellency, let us be clear about who the law recognizes:
The duly democratically elected chairmen and councillors are the authentic council occupants under law. Yes or no? The answer is unequivocally YES.
The APC chairmen and their councillors are no longer the council officials according to law, since their tenure elapsed in October 2025. This is not a matter of political debate, it is a matter of legal fact. Any continued occupation of these offices beyond their lawful tenure is a violation of democratic principles and constitutional order.
POLITICS SHOULD NOT OVERRIDE GOVERNANCE
Your Excellency, we all understand that politics is at play. The tensions surrounding local government administration in Osun have become less about governance and more about strategic maneuvering. Local governments are the lifeblood of political mobilization, and many of these issues appear driven by politics rather than law or administration.
But you, sir, were elected to govern, not to play games. In such politically charged conditions, I urge you to ensure the presence of security agencies police, DSS, and other operatives to guarantee compliance, prevent interference, and maintain peace. Should any actors attempt to obstruct a Supreme Court ruling, then a court of law should handle such behavior appropriately and decisively.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY CANNOT BE OVERLOOKED
Your Excellency, there are claims that the state government may have benefited from funds meant for local governments and that refunds may now be inevitable. If this is accurate, then resolving the matter swiftly benefits your administration as much as the local governments. Transparency at this stage is not just advisable, it is essential.
With the Supreme Court judgment now public, you hold the moral and constitutional responsibility to ensure that local governments receive their funds without delay, and that any funds previously shared are reconciled properly. You have shown patience for nine months, but patience cannot become a political liability.
THE APC’S DELAY TACTICS AND THE 2026 POLITICAL CHESSBOARD
Your Excellency, it appears the APC is deliberately stretching this situation to weaken your grassroots appeal ahead of the 2026 elections. Delay breeds frustration, and frustration breeds resentment especially among local government officials who rely heavily on state cooperation.
If the opposition senses that time is their strongest weapon, then your strongest counter-weapon must be speed and decisiveness. Political power is not kept by waiting. It is kept by acting. Do not allow the opposition to turn your patience into a political weapon against you.
THIS IS YOUR DEFINING MOMENT
Your Excellency, the Supreme Court has spoken. The legal path is clear. The procedures are available. The political consequences are real. This is the moment for you to:
• Assert your constitutional authority
• Restore local government autonomy
• Protect the rule of law
• Reassure the grassroots that you stand firmly with them
Leadership is not only about winning elections. It is about upholding justice, protecting institutions, and confronting political gamesmanship with clarity and strength. The people who voted for you did not elect you to be patient with injustice they elected you to fight it.
OSUN STATE NOW STANDS AT A CROSSROADS
Governor Adeleke, our state stands at a crossroads. The Supreme Court has opened the door, but only you can walk through it. If you move swiftly, decisively, and lawfully, you not only cement your leadership but also safeguard the integrity of local governance in Osun State.
The responsibility is now yours, and so is the moment. Wake up, step forward, and stand firmly on the side of legality and accountability. The duly elected local government officials are waiting. The people of Osun are watching. History will judge your response.
Your Excellency, the ball is in your court. Play it wisely, play it swiftly, and play it on the side of justice.
