The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has appointed Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun as the 14th Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna.
His appointment follows the retirement of Air Vice Marshal Sani Rabe.
Until his new posting, Ademuwagun served as the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Lagos. He formally took over at a brief handover ceremony held at the institute’s headquarters in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The development was confirmed in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Wing Commander Bassey Okon.
Okon noted that Ademuwagun’s appointment is expected to strengthen AFIT’s reputation and enhance its global competitiveness.
“Before his latest posting, Ademuwagun held several instructional, staff and command appointments, including Assistant Director, Information Communications Technology at NAF Headquarters; Dean, Faculty of Ground and Communications Engineering, AFIT; and Director, Information Communications Technology, AFIT.
“He also served as Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja; Director of Communications Engineering at NAF Headquarters, Abuja; and Director of Defence Space Utilisation at Defence Headquarters. A highly accomplished officer, Ademuwagun holds multiple academic and professional qualifications,” the statement read.
According to the NAF spokesperson, the new commandant holds a Master’s degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University; a Master’s in Engineering (Project Management) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim; and a Master of Philosophy in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He also earned a PhD in Wireless Communications Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Ademuwagun is among the few Nigerians certified as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He also holds credentials as a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). His military honours include the General Service Star (GSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Pass Staff College (psc), and Fellow of the National Defence College (fwc).
In a related development, NAF also confirmed the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Osichinaka Chiedu Ubadike as the new Deputy Commandant of AFIT.
Ubadike succeeds AVM Albert Bot, who has been reassigned to the Defence Research and Development Bureau as Deputy Director-General.
A Professor of Aerospace Engineering since July 2023, Ubadike brings significant academic and technical expertise to his new role. He has participated in several research and development projects within AFIT and previously served as Engineering Control Officer and Commanding Officer at the 431 Engineering Group before joining the institute as an instructor and administrative officer.
