As I expressed during my remarks at the PDP Elective National Convention #Ibadan2025—which commenced yesterday and successfully concluded early this morning—this convention will be remembered as a historic turning point for our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It marks the beginning of a new chapter that offers renewed hope, strengthened leadership, and the opportunity to reposition the party nationally.
First, I extend profound gratitude to all party leaders, delegates, and members whose contributions and dedication ensured the success of this convention.
Your sacrifice, patience, and commitment continue to uphold the values of the PDP. Indeed, PDP… Power to the People!
A Call for Unity in the Aftermath of the Convention
As we celebrate the successful outcome and particularly the role of His Excellency Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for hosting the PDP. It is important to also reflect on the collective responsibility before us.
The outcome of this convention must not be allowed to create divisions. Instead, it should become a rallying point for reconciliation, unity, and renewed strength.
With critical elections approaching, especially the Osun State Governorship Election, as well as the electoral battles of our incumbents and aspirants nationwide, we can not afford internal rancor.
If the house is not settled, the electorate outside will not know where to turn on election day. Unity is not just desirable; it is necessary for electoral victory.
This is why the PDP must immediately adopt internal mechanisms that foster peace, dialogue, and mutual respect among leaders and stakeholders.
Let us avoid a repeat of situations like the unfortunate scenario in Zamfara in the past, where internal crisis undermined the party’s chances. This is a wake-up call to all PDP leaders: do the right thing now so the party is not weakened at the polls.
Responsibilities of the Newly Elected Executives
To our newly elected executives, I extend heartfelt congratulations. Your victory is a call to service. You must see yourselves as one united body tasked with strengthening the party and not as factions with competing interests.
The nation’s eyes are now upon you. Your leadership must be marked by humility, responsibility, and dedication to the unity of the PDP. This is not a time for arrogance or divisive tendencies; it is a time for service, strategy, and collective progress.
Leadership at this moment must be defined by:
– Listening more than commanding
– Uniting more than dividing
– Acting with purpose rather than pride
– Ensuring stability rather than fueling discord
The task before you is simple but crucial: lead the PDP in the right direction, not astray.
Preparing for 2027: A Stronger PDP Must Emerge
As the major opposition party, the PDP carries the hopes of millions of Nigerians who are eager for a return to stability, competence, and good governance. The people still believe in the PDP. They want the party back strong, united, and ready to offer the leadership the country desperately needs.
To achieve this, we must put aside differences. The 2027 General Election is not far away, and only a united PDP can face the APC and send them packing.
Appreciation to Delegates and Party Faithful
To all delegates and faithful party members who participated in the electoral process, I salute your dedication. Your efforts have strengthened our democracy and energized our party.
As we move forward, we must remain steadfast, committed, and dogged. With unity, discipline, and collective determination, the newly elected executives, supported by the entire PDP family—can deliver the victory that Nigerians are hoping for in 2027.
Together, we can rebuild!!!
Together, we can rise!!!
Together, we can return the PDP to power!!!
