Thousands of Kogi Central constituents have reaffirmed their support for the ongoing recall process against suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that no amount of misinformation or propaganda will derail their efforts.
According to them, her election to the Senate was a mistake that must be corrected. Representing over 10,000 constituents from the five local government areas of Kogi Central, the Kogi Central Grassroots Movement issued a statement on Wednesday, signed by its Coordinator, AbdulHameed Jimoh, and Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi.
The group accused the senator’s camp of spreading falsehoods and fabricating videos to mislead the public but maintained that her time in the Senate was coming to an end.
They urged Nigerians to disregard online narratives, arguing that Akpoti-Uduaghan had lost significant political support, even among her former allies.
“She falsely blames the state government for her recall, yet those who once stood with her in Kogi Central have abandoned her,” the statement read. “She went to the Senate for personal gain, not to serve the people.”
They also alleged that she had embarrassed herself internationally by making unsubstantiated claims about the Senate President and misrepresenting the reason for her suspension.
Additionally, they accused her of attempting to stage a protest in Okene by distributing items to lure people into participating. According to them, outsiders were brought in to pose as constituents, and her team spread misleading reports about people being forced to sign the recall register.
Observers, they argued, would agree that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions have brought negative attention to Kogi Central.
“No responsible people will sit back and allow their senatorial district to be dragged through the mud without taking action. This recall process is a clear message that Kogi Central does not support her conduct,” the statement added.
The group also criticized her for escalating what they described as a domestic issue to international organizations like the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, accusing her of attempting to discredit Nigeria.
“You cannot tarnish your country’s image on the global stage and still expect to retain leadership. Since she refuses to step down, the people are determined to remove her,” they stated.
Finally, they called on the media to fact-check all narratives surrounding the recall and rejected claims that constituents were misled with false promises or financial incentives.
“The people participating in this recall process are well-informed and cannot be deceived,” the statement concluded.
