Mikel returns to Chelsea - THE METRO

Super Eagles of Nigeria and Chelsea legend, John Mikel Obi, is set to take to the pitch once again, this time for a charity match between Chelsea Legends and Liverpool Legends at Anfield on Saturday, March 22.

Chelsea announced that the game is being organised to raise funds for the Chelsea Foundation and the Chelsea Players’ Trust, with Mikel being joined by a host of former Chelsea stars, including Gianfranco Zola, Carlo Cudicini, Ramires, and Gary Cahill.

Former strikers Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jesper Gronkjaer, and Loic Remy will also be part of the Chelsea Legends team, making for a thrilling encounter against their Liverpool counterparts.

Mikel, who spent 11 illustrious years at Chelsea, winning numerous honours including the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, announced his retirement from professional football on September 27, 2022.

The charity match promises to be an exciting encounter, with fans able to witness some of Chelsea’s greatest players in action once again. Proceeds from the game will go towards supporting the Chelsea Foundation and the Chelsea Players’ Trust.
