Veteran gospel singer Agnes Iroh has publicly called out Nigerian rapper Olamide for allegedly sampling her hit song Follow the Ladder without permission.
The singer took to social media, urging the YBNL boss to meet with her over the matter.
“Come and see me,” Iroh said in a video, referencing Olamide’s 2014 track Our Lord Jesus, which contains elements of her popular gospel anthem. She emphasized that the use of her song should have been properly acknowledged and compensated.
Follow the Ladder gained massive popularity in Nigerian churches and gospel circles, making it one of the most recognized praise songs. Olamide’s version, which appeared on his album Street OT, incorporated parts of the track in a contemporary hip-hop style.
As of now, Olamide has not publicly responded to the allegation. The situation has sparked debates on copyright issues within the Nigerian music industry, with many calling for better structures to protect gospel artists.
