2027: AfDB President Adesina Speaks on Contesting for Nigeria’s Presidency

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has denied rumours that he plans to run for president in Nigeria in 2027.

The speculation began after a recent interview on Arise TV, where he mentioned being available to serve in any capacity, including in Nigeria.

However, Adesina has since clarified that his words were misinterpreted and misrepresented by several Nigerian media outlets.

He emphasised that he never expressed interest in running for president, and encouraged people to listen to the full interview to confirm his actual statement.

Adesina’s clarification has put to rest the widespread speculation that had been circulating in the media, and has reassured the public that he has no intention of seeking the presidency in 2027.

“A segment of my recent interview on @ARISEtv has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets.

“What I said was, “I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country”.

“A listen to the substantive and robust interview, which is available online will show this to be the case. For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria,” Adesina clarified.
