The All Progressives Congress (APC) has further consolidated its dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape, now governing 30 out of 36 states following recent defections by governors in Adamawa and Kano.
This shift leaves the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with only three states, while other parties control Anambra, Abia, and Osun.

With APC’s control spread across all six geopolitical zones, the party now enjoys unprecedented reach nationwide.
Analysts suggest this dominance could significantly shape the 2027 general elections, strengthening President Bola Tinubu’s influence and reducing the PDP’s bargaining power.
Meanwhile, opposition parties are left with limited strongholds: PDP in Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara; APGA in Anambra; Labour Party in Abia; and Accord Party in Osun.
