Every year on December 26th, millions around the world observe Boxing Day; a tradition that began centuries ago when the wealthy would box up gifts for their servants and the less fortunate. Today, this holiday carries an even deeper meaning that speaks to the very heart of our shared humanity.
Boxing Day is fundamentally a day to show love. It reminds us that the Christmas spirit shouldn’t end on December 25th, but should extend into our daily actions and interactions with others. It’s a day when we’re called to look beyond ourselves and reach out to those around us with generosity and compassion.
We Stand Equal Before God
Perhaps the most beautiful truth that Boxing Day illuminates is this: there is no difference between the rich and the poor, the young and the old, because we are all equal before God. In a world that constantly tries to divide us by wealth, status, age, or background, Boxing Day stands as a powerful counter-narrative. It declares that these earthly distinctions hold no weight in the eyes of our Creator.
The wealthy executive and the struggling worker, the elderly grandmother and the newborn child all are equally precious, equally valued, equally loved by God. This isn’t just a pleasant sentiment; it’s a fundamental spiritual truth that should shape how we treat one another every single day.
Living Out Equality Through Love
When we truly grasp this equality, it transforms how we live. Boxing Day encourages us to put this understanding into practice. It asks us to share what we have, not out of obligation or pity, but out of recognition that we’re all part of one human family. The gifts we give, the time we share, the kindness we extend these become expressions of our faith in action.
This is where faith becomes tangible. Believing in God isn’t simply about attending services or saying prayers, though these matter deeply. It’s about recognizing the divine spark in every person we meet and treating them accordingly.
When we serve others on Boxing Day, we’re acknowledging that serving them is serving God himself.
*Have Faith, Even in Difficult Times*
Life isn’t always easy. Many face Boxing Day with heavy hearts, empty pockets, or weary spirits. Perhaps you’re struggling financially, dealing with loss, or feeling forgotten by the world. This is precisely when faith becomes most vital.
Remember that God sees you. Your worth isn’t determined by your bank account, your social standing, or your age. You matter because you exist, because you are God’s beloved creation. The same God who watches over the wealthy watches over you with equal care and concern.
Have faith that your circumstances can change, that tomorrow holds promise, that you are never alone. Faith doesn’t mean everything will be easy, but it means everything has purpose and meaning. It means that even in your struggles, you have dignity, value, and the love of a God who never abandons His children.
As Boxing Day passes and we move into a new year, let’s carry its lessons with us. Let’s continue to see each person we meet as our equal, deserving of love and respect. Let’s have faith that living this way choosing love over judgment, generosity over hoarding, equality over division creates the kind of world God intended for us.
Whether you have much or little, whether you’re young or old, whether life feels abundant or scarce right now, you have something invaluable to offer: your presence, your kindness, your recognition of the humanity in others. These gifts cost nothing but mean everything.
Have faith that love is stronger than division. Have faith that when we treat each other as equals as brothers and sisters in one human family we come closer to the divine vision for our world.
Boxing Day reminds us that we’re all in this together, walking the same journey, equally loved by the same God. Let that truth fill you with hope, inspire you with purpose, and move you to show love wherever you go.
